Cleveland Indians place Josh Tomlin on family medical emergency list

Tomlin can remain on the list for three to five days if needed.

The Cleveland Indians have announced that pitcher Josh Tomlin has been placed on the family medical emergency list, effective immediately. The reason for the move is not known at this time, but Tomlin can remain on the FME list for three to five days.

It has not yet been announced why Tomlin is being placed on the FME list, but according to Paul Hoynes, Josh Tomlin is returning to his home city of Tyler, Texas to stay with a family member.

As a result of the sudden roster move, the Indians will play a man short against the Chicago White Sox tonight. Pitcher Danny Salazar will return from the 15-day disabled list on Thursday to take his roster spot and place in the rotation. Salazar was placed on the disabled list with elbow fatigue on August 2. Salazar also missed the All-Star game due to the same issue, but a recent MRI revealed no damage to the elbow.
